our roots

Germination. Jessica’s journey began during childhood while planting flowers with her father in a sunny patch on a North facing property. She often spent days tagging along with her mother to work and immersed herself in creating flower arrangements under the tutelage of her mother’s unique aesthetics for floral design. She recalls spending weekends at her grandfather’s 40 acre farm, exploring and eating blackberries by the handful. She still enjoys hearing her father and family tell stories about “the farm.”

Cultivation. Her love for growing plants took root while attending college in the Green Mountains studying herbal medicine. After college, she signed up for an herb farm seminar which became an eye-opening experience. Jessica expanded her knowledge base around herbal remedies, learning about sporadic germination, identifying each plant’s prime harvesting stage and proper drying and processing for high quality medicinal herbs. This was important in order to attain the highest quality and potency in her herbal products for maximum effectiveness.

Fruition. Fast forward to today, you’ll find Jessica working on her 10 acre farm which is situated at the southern end of the Lowell Mountain ridge line at an elevation of about 1600 ft. This ridge line is depicted in the Mountainous Herbs logo. She and her husband are committed to utilizing organic no-till farming practices, which means no pesticides or chemical fertilizers, but more importanly regeneritive agriculture practices. Her mission, “from seed to apothecary” growing her own medicinal herbs, processing her plants at peak harvest, and combining them with organic locally sourced ingredients to produce high quality, small batch products. Continuing the family tradition of farming makes her father proud and watching her operate her International-Drott bulldozer makes him chuckle.

Mountainous Herbs is A Small Farm APOTHECARY located in Vermont with a passion for wellness and a commitment to environmental sustainability.
